Old Spokes Home is seeking full-time mechanics to work in our unique and bustling bike shops located in Burlington, Vermont, one of the best little cities for health, food, and outdoor recreation.
Old Spokes Home is all about the bicycle. The shop is known for having approachable, knowledgeable, and passionate mechanics who provide professional service to everybody. Our mechanics also assemble new bikes and refurbish used bikes. All shop employees, including mechanics, provide advice to commuters, tourers, bikepackers, fat bikers, and cycling enthusiasts of all stripes. The shop is a destination for people who celebrate cycling history and culture, and the shop plays a role in many local cycling events, advocacy efforts, and celebrations.
We are seeking applicants with prior professional bike service experience. Old Spokes Home sells and repairs just about everything from English three-speeds to dual-suspension mountain bikes. Best qualified applicants will possess knowledge of and be able to service bikes of all types, shapes and sizes.
Old Spokes Home is a mission-driven, not-for-profit bike shop running social and educational programs at its sister shop, Bike Recycle Vermont (bikerecyclevermont.org). In addition to working on fine, high-end bicycles and doing custom work at Old Spokes Home, mechanics have the opportunity to work in our youth programs, teach workshops, and make bikes and learning about bicycle mechanics accessible to the broader community. For this reason, applicants who are passionate about growing access to cycling and have volunteer or non-profit experience have an added advantage.
We are currently hiring for seasonal full-time and part-time positions. Pay is commensurate with experience. We offer health, sick time, and vacation benefits to year-round employees; while year-round positions aren’t currently available, being part of this established bike shop doubling as a young nonprofit organization means there is lots of excitement and room to grow.
